'Zik is French former music television network owned by AB Groupe. The channel broadcasts music videos related to urban, hip-hop and rap.
History
The channel was created at the beginning of 1998 to replace France Courses which only federated few viewers. It aired in its beginnings from 18:00 to 2:00, then, at the end of March 1998, from 6:00 to 3:00 in the morning. The channel is the little sister of Nostalgie la Télé and Musique Classique in the music offer of AB Sat. The program being shot at young audience (from 10 to 18 years), it innovates by broadcasting new releases never broadcast in France.
Originally only broadcast on this satellite, it transmits from 2000 on channel 11 of the German music channel Onyx.tv (channel owned by AB Groupe) from 17 hours to midnight. The channel is offered in clear digital on the Hot Bird satellite and tries to establish partnerships with the biggest discotheques of France. However, success is not at the time.
In 2003, AB Sat relaunched its channel and innovated once again by positioning itself on the niche of Black Music. The channel is then included in Canalsatellite. Its audience is around 0.1%.
In 2005, the competition on this niche was intensified with the arrival of MTV Base, Trace TV, M6 Music Black, the group announces its stop then decides to turn it into a music channel always focused 'Black Music but directed call TV ( SMS, chat on screen).
In June 2006, 'Zik becomes rap music channel and launches its website zik.fr
It is then available with a subscription on all networks of cable operators and on digital broadcasting packages in clear or encrypted.
The channel ceased broadcasting on December 31, 2007, when it broadcast 7:00 to 22:30 and shared its channel with XXL. It was replaced by the channel Bis TV Promo (which aims to sell the bouquet Bis TV) for a few days.
With the suppression of RFM TV in March 2005 and of Musique Classique in October 2007, 'Zik was the last music channel of AB Groupe but lastly the group launched in partnership the channel Clubbing TV.
