Arte is Franco-German television network owned by ARD, ZDF and France TV. The channel broadcasts culture and documentaries programmings related to arts, theatre, music, movies and performances.
History
Arte was launched on 31st May 1989 as La Sept. Launch of the broadcast for arts and culture.
On 2nd October 1990, La Sept was extended in Germany.
On 30th May 1992, La Sept was renamed as Arte.
On 13th December 1994, Arte was added its daytime channel La Cinquième until 19:00 in France.
On 2nd January 1995, Arte was rebranded with the new logo and idents were changed.
On March 1996, Arte was switched to 16:9 image format.
On 1st January 1997, Arte was added its daytime channel Der Kinderkanal until 19:00 in Germany.
On 1st August 2000, Arte was renamed its French division "La Sept-Arte" to "Arte France".
On 6th January 2001, Arte was changed its broadcast hour at 14:00.
On 3rd January 2004, Arte was rebranded with the new logo and idents were changed.
On 31st March 2005, Arte was now 24 hours for this time.
On 6th September 2008, Arte was switched to full 16:9 image format.
On 30th September 2008, Arte was launched its high-definition version.
On 28th February 2011, Arte was rebranded with the new logo and idents were changed.
On February 2014, Arte was partnered with Czech public broadcaster Česká Televize.
On 25th March 2017, Arte was rebranded with the new idents were changed.
On 12th September 2018, Arte was launched in ultra high-definition version.
On 22nd June 2020, Arte was launched its HbbTV platform "Arte Extra".
On 1st January 2023, Arte was closed in standard-definition version in Germany.
On 13th December 2024, Arte was joined at the European Broadcasting Union member.
On 3rd December 2025, Arte was partnered with Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne Movlennya.
