Metro is Polish general interest television network owned by Discovery Networks Poland. The channel broadcasts movies, documentaries and lifestyle programmings.
History[]
The station in 2015, as one of the winners of the competition, received a license for terrestrial broadcasting in MUX-8. The channel was supposed to be called Kiwi TV, but the channel agreed with the KRRiT regarding the change of name, which occurred before the start of the broadcast.
Station tests began on October 10, 2016 - static screens with the station name and control signal were now being emitted. The channel was launched on December 2, 2016 at 6.00.
The channel enjoyed the highest ratings from all new terrestrial channels (Nowa TV, Zoom TV, WP).
In autumn 2016, Discovery Networks Poland purchased 48.94% of the shares of the channel's broadcaster Metro (Green Content) from Agora. In August 2017, Discovery Networks Poland announced that it would buy the remaining shares of Green Content for PLN 19 million in accordance with the agreement providing for the purchase of these shares by the end of 2017. On September 1, 2017, Discovery Networks Poland purchased 51.06% of Green Content from Agora, thus becoming the owner of the TV station.
This channel, with its profile and character, corresponds to the DMAX station not present in Poland.
