ORF Sat is Austrian public television network owned by Österreichischer Rundfunk. The channel broadcasts Österreichischer Rundfunk's television programmings for Austrians living outside Austria.

Overview[]

Since ORF for third-party productions acquires only the broadcasting rights for Austria, the stations ORF 1 and ORF 2 were broadcast via DVB-S only encrypted. The required hardware for decoding is only available within Austria. In order to still be able to offer interested parties abroad the opportunity to receive ORF own productions, they were sent unencrypted via ORF Sat. The station of the ORF was broadcast via satellite in the context of ZDFvision, the digital television program bouquet of ZDF, and thus fed into the German cable networks. But there was also an encrypted broadcast on ORF transponder, which probably served as a feeder of the signal to ZDF. After the station was discontinued mainly for copyright and financial reasons in 2000, CNBC Europe took over the empty slot in ZDF program bouquet.

Today, the task of supplying the foreign countries takes over the ORF 2 Europe, which was started in 2004 and acts as a successor to ORF Sat.

Programmings[]

Broadcast was essentially the program of ORF 2, which was replaced in case of unavailability of broadcasts due to the legal situation by TW1.
