Polar is French former entertainment television network owned by AB Groupe. The channel broadcasts series and movies related to action, thriller, crime and suspence.

History[]

In 1996, AB Groupe created a bouquet of 5 channels on cinema: Ciné Palace, Rire, Romance, Action and Polar. The latter is then centered on the crime and suspense movies.

In September 2002, during the redesign of the movie offering, the 4-channel cinema bouquet was named Cinébox and the channel became Cinépolar with Cinécomic, Ciné FX and the Cinébox showcase chain. However, to date, only Ciné FX and Cinépolar remain in the movie offer. Since its creation, and as Action edited by the same group, Cinépolar is one of the few French pay-TV channels to maintain their logo embedded in the image, during the broadcast of feature films.

December 4, 2012, Cinépolar becomes Polar again.

On June 30, 2015, Polar and Ciné FX are removed from Canalsat.

On November 20, 2015, the channels Polar and Ciné FX are removed from Orange TV.

On December 6, 2016, Polar and Ciné FX were replaced by Paramount Channel and Crime District in Bis TV's Cinérama offer.

Polar and Ciné FX officially stop on April 30, 2018, their broadcasts on the Freebox will be final on July 31, 2018.

Polar will merged with Crime District as of August 1, 2018
