RTL Club is Belgian commercial television network owned by RTL Belgium. The channel broadcasts entertainmnet, series, sports and children's programmings.
History[]
The Belgian television and radio company RTL-TVi SA created Club RTL on February 15, 1995 in order to complete its program offer in Communauté française de Belgique alongside RTL TVI.
On October 3, 2005, TVi SA's Board of Directors unanimously decided not to request the renewal of its broadcasting license as RTL TVI and Club RTL are television of the Communauté française de Belgique. TVi SA had a Luxembourg broadcasting license and a 9-year broadcasting license issued by the Communauté française de Belgique, which expired in December 2005. To comply with the European Télévision sans frontières Directive, TVi SA n Therefore, it did not renew its Belgian authorization at the request of its main shareholder, RTL Group, which wanted to maintain its reputation as a European audiovisual group from Luxembourg.
TVi SA retains its operational headquarters and its studios in Belgium in Brussels and is committed to continuing to assume all the commitments made to the Belgian Higher Audiovisual Council, but on a voluntary basis, which allows it in case need to overcome the constraints of contributing to the development of movies, and in particular to independent production in the French Community, to respect all provisions relating to television signage, the protection of minors or advertising restrictions, except for the rules provided for in European law and transposed into Luxembourg positive law.
The same year, Club RTL is divided into three programs on the same channel: Kid's Club (now Kidz RTL since 2012) for children) from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 15:20 to 18:00, Club RTL (series and films) from 11:00 to 15:20 and 18:00 to 00:30, and finally RTL Sport (Sport) for tennis, motor sports (GP motorcycle and WTCC), the Belgian Football Cup, matches of the Belgian football team and the league of champions.
In June 2006, the channel switched to 16/9 format.
On January 8, 2007, Club RTL and all of TVi SA's activities left the premises of Ariane Avenue to move to 2 Georgin Avenue in Schaerbeek, in the new buildings of RTL House located between Georgin Avenue. Grosjean Avenue, Mommaerts Avenue and Chaussée de Louvain, specially built to house all of the group's radio and television channels.
August 30, 2010 is the beginning of the broadcast of the channel Club RTL HD.
On February 1, 2016, the channel stops broadcasting the animated series The Simpsons, flagship series of the channel for more than 20 years. It is moved to Plug RTL.
