RTL Nederland is Dutch media company owned by RTL Group. The company have eight television channels and one radio station.

History[]

RTL/Holland Media Group SA was set up in 1996 as a new parent company for RTL 4, RTL 5, Veronica. TV10 also fell under RTL/HMG for a short time due to a partnership with Saban Entertainment. Although HMG was set up in 1995, the organization was only officially established in February 1996. Previously RTL 4 and RTL 5 were part of RTL 4 SA, successor of RTL Veronique SA.

CLT-UFA SA, formerly the Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Télédiffusion (CLT), has always been a license holder and is now part of RTL Group. Veronica was a public broadcasting association until 1995. At the start of RTL/HMG in 1996, VNU (25%), CLT-UFA (40%) and Vereniging Veronica (35%) were the shareholders. CLT-UFA and VNU were the owners of RTL 4 SA. On 1 July 1998, VNU sold its interest in the company to CLT-UFA, giving it the majority of the company. In March 2000, Vereniging Veronica stepped out of RTL/HMG, as a result of which RTL Group, the former CLT-UFA, became the sole shareholder of RTL/HMG that renamed the company into RTL Nederland SA in August 2004. After that, a Dutch private limited company was established under the name RTL Nederland BV. The Luxembourg RTL Nederland SA then merged into the RTL Group subsidiary CLT-UFA. From 1 October 2007, Talpa Media Holding owned 26.3% of RTL Nederland, a new holding company of RTL Group that had been placed above RTL Nederland, which also included 538. Talpa Media Holding was not allowed to sell its interest in RTL Nederland in the first few years, but it has a conflict about the valuation and terms of the agreement. With the exchange of 538 and the sale of Slam! FM and Radio 10 Gold, RTL Group again obtained 100% of the shares of RTL Nederland on 1 January 2012.

In 2016, RTL Nederland announced that it wanted to rename its name into simply RTL with its slogan ...en Ontdek. However, the names of RTL Nederland, RTL Nederland and RTL Group have remained the same.
