Rai Italia is Italian international television network owned by Rai. The channel features a mix of news, discussion-based programmes, drama and documentaries as well as sports coverage including 4 live games per week from Italy's top football league, Serie A.

History[]

The channel was born in 1992 under the name Rai International with a worldwide broadcast via satellite and various local TV operators. It reaches the respective continents with three different programs named:

  • Rai International 1, for the Americas
  • Rai International 2, for Australia
  • Rai International 3, for Asia and Africa

As of March 30, 2008, it changed its name to Raitalia and the programs, after being transmitted for a few months on Raitalia 3 channel for Europe, were partially inserted for a short time in the time zone from 13:00 to 21:00 on Rai Med, also broadcast on Eutelsat Hotbird 13 ° East and available in Sky platform at channel 804. In April 2014, the channel ended its broadcasts in Europe.

Since November 2009, Raitalia has changed its name to Rai Italia, adopting a logo that resembles that of all other public television networks and is distributed by Rai World.

As of 1 January 2012, following a cost reduction plan approved unanimously by the CDA, all self-produced programs are no longer available. From October 7, 2012, the program directed by Sr. Myriam Castelli on live program broadcast live on Rai by Saxa Rubra every Sunday from 10:30 am to 12:25 pm - Italian time - that allows Italian viewers residing abroad Follow the holy Mass from various Italian towns and all the religious functions presided by his holiness Pope Francis in the company of various guests in the studio.
