Rai Movie is Italian movie television network owned by Rai. The channel broadcasts mostly Italian films, interviews, backstages and documentaries.
History[]
The channel was launched on 1 July 1999 exclusively on Tele+ Digitale with the name of Rai Sat Cinema. It was run by Rai Sat, a joint-stock company at Rai, which was involved in packing channels for pay-TV.
Since 2002 is the official television channel of the Venice Film Festival.
In 2003, Rai Sat Cinema changed its name to Rai Sat Cinema World, in conjunction with the birth of Sky. During this time, the channel broadcast films with particular attention to foreign productions, with events throughout the day: big cycles, first visions, exclusive, extra and also documentaries of the best Italian, European and international productions. In the late evening he presented the most provocative works, sometimes the forbidden cinema, with great attention to the most curious and discussed films.
On November 1, 2006, he returned to his original name of Rai Sat Cinema, with a program dedicated to Italian films and events.
In 2009, the channel aired some spots to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its birth.
On July 31, 2009, the channel abandoned pay-TV due to the non-renewal of the contract between Rai and Sky. From that moment on, Rai Sat Cinema became free, moving on the digital terrestrial for the areas covered by Rai Mux 3, on the Tivùsat satellite platform and on Rai Play.
This fact event caused the closure of the company Rai Sat, a private one of its original purpose. Since then, the channel is managed directly by Rai.
On April 27, 2010, the Rai Premium structure was created which was responsible for coordinating the programming of Rai 4 and this channel.
On May 18, 2010, the name changed to Rai Movie, on the occasion of the rebranding that involved all Rai channels.
On November 27, 2010, the channel joins the new direction Rai Gold, which deals with Rai Premium and Rai Movie.
On May 7, 2011, the channel undergoes a rebranding with a new graphic design.
On December 15, 2014, it adopts a new graphic design for bumper and network promos, and from the same date adopt a new slogan: "Dentro il cinema"
From May 26, 2016, the channel began broadcasting in high definition on the Tivùsat satellite platform. With the change of emission over the same period, the channel began broadcasting the old movies and TV series on aspect ratio 4:3 in 16:9 pillarbox, along with Rai Premium and other digital terrestrial Rai channels that started in the course Of the year HD broadcasts on Tivùsat.
