Rai Südtirol

Rai Südtirol is Italian television network in German language owned by Rai. The channel broadcast to the German-speaking public of South Tyrol. Unlike all other Rai channels, Rai Südtirol carries no commercials.

History[]

Transmissions began on 7 February 1966. Programming initially occupied just one hour daily, broadcast on the local frequencies of Rete 2 (now Rai 2) between 20.00 and 21.00.

On 15 December 1979, Rai Sender Bozen began broadcasting on its own dedicated channel.

With the emergence of the third TV Network (now Rai 3) in 1979, a "bis net" (ie a fourth channel repeating Rai 3 at the times when Sender Bozen did not broadcast) was created to allow the spread of the program Local German without obscuring the Italian national one. Even with regard to the radio program, the structure transmits on a dedicated frequency, which in the moments of broadcast pause repeats Rai Radio 3.

Since January 27, 2014, the structure has officially assumed the name of Rai Südtirol and the peak hours of all television broadcasts have been increased.
