Rai Scuola is Italian educational television network owned by Rai. The channel broadcasts documentary, cultural and educational programming in Italian and English language.

History[]

The channel was born in October 2000 under the name Rai Edu Lab and was originally only broadcast via satellite. He changed his name to Rai Edu 1 on June 17, 2002 and to Rai Scuola in September 2009.

Since 2004, Rai Edu 1 was also available on terrestrial digital in much of Italian national territory with Mux B.

Since February 2, 2009, this multiplex was replaced by Rai Storia, but the broadcasts on the digital terrestrial channel continued until May 18, 2010, when the Rai channel logos were rebranded.

From December 21, 2011, the channel has returned to digital terrestrial coverage for areas covered by Mux 2 until September 14, 2015. It currently broadcasts in Mux 3.

Since January 4, 2017, the channel has started broadcasting in high definition on the Tivùsat satellite platform.

From April 10, Rai Scuola rebrands its logo, graphics and colors, from lilac to orange.

Programmings[]

Rai Scuola is primarily intended for the teaching of school disciplines to primary school children and to secondary school children. School disciplines concern the sciences, the English language, but also the road education. The main project is Il D, a container of BBC training programs and sitcoms produced by Rai.

From March 19, 2012, the new programming began, with the addition of a new daily culture band named Nautilus, which includes programs already on the channel (CultBook, Art News, Gap) and new programs (Zettel, a program of Philosophy of and with Maurizio Ferraris, and lessons from the crisis, a program of economics by and with Giuliano Amato).

Rai Scuola programs are often produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

In 2006, the channel broadcast the British series Goal: Speak English, Play Football in the original language, but without subtitles.
