History[]
Télétoon was launched on December 16, 1996 at the launch of the TPS satellite bouquet in order to be the equivalent channel for Canal J on the competing CanalSatellite bouquet. Initially the only youth channel on the TPS bouquet, Télétoon was aimed at children from 2 to 14 years old. After the launches in 2003 by TPS Jeunesse of the Eurêka! channel for children aged 7 to 14 and Piwi for the 3 to 6 year olds, it has been repositioned on the public from 6 to 15 years old.
Since 2 September 2002, the channel has a second offset broadcast channel called Télétoon +1, which allows users to find their programs with a one-hour delay. It is the first channel to have imported in France the concept of "replay channel" widely used in the United Kingdom and Italy.
Following the merger of TPS with Canalsat on 5 January 2007, in addition to its distribution in the FAI bouquets, the channel is also available to Canalsat subscribers as of 21 March 2007. It has since been published by MultiThématiques, a subsidiary of Groupe Canal+.
On May 17, 2011, Télétoon becomes Télétoon+, the Groupe Canal+ wishing to enhance the editorial know-how of its thematic channels by awarding it the + of its flagship Canal+. On this occasion, the channel passes in 16:9.
Télétoon+ broadcasts 24 hours a day. The programs of the night are broadcast from 2:20 to 4:55. The resumption of the broadcasts takes place at 5:00 am.
In June 2015, the channel appears in HD.
Télétoon+ and Piwi+ will become exclusive Canal and will therefore leave all operators on 31 December 2016. Télétoon+ 1 was already exclusive on Canal and Numéricâble and will stop broadcasting on Numéricâble on 31 December 2016.
