TV3 is Norwegian private television television network owned by Nordic Entertainment Group. The channel broadcasts news, entertainment, series, sports and lifestyle programmings.

History[]

Channel broadcasts were attempted by the Brundtland government late autumn 1987. Minister of Culture Hallvard Bakke and Minister for Transport Kjell Borgen refused to grant the channel a license to send via cable in Norway because it was advertising-financed. However, Janco Kabel TV meant that Bakke had no legal authority to deny people to take down TV3 and therefore chose to send the channel's very first broadcast on New Year's Eve. Bakkes band led the Norwegian Cable TV Federation to appeal the matter to the King in the Cabinet.

The uncertainty about whether it was legal to send the channel's broadcasts meant that Norwegian cable TV companies stopped transmissions after a few days of transmission. But Bakke gained his opinion and, in addition, a number of well-known cultural personnel started to launch a boycott action against NRK. "Albania model against freedom of expression on a western pluralist television medium" was the expression that Rolv Wesenlund used in connection with Bakke's attitude. At the same time, many responded that while TV3 was refused to send, advertised-funded British channels like Sky Channel and Super Channel had been allowed to send in Norway for several years.

These events, as well as pressure inside the government and the party, led to Bakke on January 12 turned into the case. VG wrote that Bakke had been exposed to pressure, both from colleagues in the government, the AP's governor and the party in the party.

With the launch of digital terrestrial television in October 2007, the channel became available terrestrially.

On 3 August 2009, TV3 launched a new visual identity and a new logo. The new visual identity mostly uses purple colour. The identity will also be rolled out to Denmark and Hungary, but TV3 was the first to use it.

On 1 August 2011, TV3 launched a new visual identity and a new logo, which used mostly yellow colour. The old logo is still used in the other countries.
