MTG or then Kinnevik had already started a channel called TV6 in 1994 as a complement to TV3. It was then profiled as "the female channel" and was intended to attract female viewers. The channel was redeployed later on to the payment channel Viasat Nature/Crime.
Radio- och TV-verket announced in September 2005 that new licenses for terrestrial digital television in Sweden had been announced. At the beginning of October, RTVV announced that 36 applications had been received, three of which were from Viasat Broadcasting. RTVV could announce at the end of November which channels they recommended for permission, including a Viasat channel with the work name Seniorkanalen in the list of priority free-TV channels.
On February 23, 2006, Minister of Culture Leif Pagrotsky announced which companies would receive the new licenses. Among these were TV6 (formerly Seniorkanalen), which would thus send unodat to the terrestrial network. In addition to the land network, the channel is available from Viasat's own satellite package, and the channel is also offered to cable TV operators.
TV6 had premiere on May 9, 2006 and the premiere night featured a match from the World Cup in ice hockey and the long-term Terminator 3. Just over a week after the premiere, May 17, TV6 broadcast the final in the UEFA Champions League. The other half attracted 820,000 viewers, according to MMS. It was the highest listing for a channel that does not belong to the "Five Big" so far and TV6 was the biggest channel that night in the ages of 15-44.
