TVN 24

TVN 24 is Polish 24-hour news television network owned by Discovery Networks Poland. The channel broadcasts news (nationwide and worldwide, sports), weather and knowledge programmings.

History[]

TVN24 was created on 9 August 2001 as the first thematic channel of the TVN Group. Its president is Maciej Sojka, program director Adam Pieczyński, and the head of the publishing team Grzegorz Miecugow.

The first period of TVN24's operation was marked by huge difficulties in reaching its recipients. Negotiations with the representatives of the largest cable TV networks were prolonged - according to the other side - by the excessive financial conditions set by TVN24.

The first breakthrough occurred on September 11, 2001. TVN24 as the first Polish station gave information about the attacks in New York and Washington and began reporting live events in the US. This relationship has become a turning point in the history of TVN24, for several hours TVN suspended the broadcast of a normal program and instead made its antenna available to TVN24 journalists. For the first time the TVN24 program reached such a large audience. Thanks to this promotion, as well as the gradual finalization of contracts with cable operators, TVN24 soon reached 1% market share. In July 2007, the TVN24 viewership amounted to an average of 3.93% and is even higher during the transmission of significant events. On June 7, 2009, TVN24 was the first television in Poland to use the function of videoporting during the merger with a reporter. During the election evening after the elections to the European Parliament, a reporter, Inga Rosińska, who was in Brussels at the time, appeared in the virtual studio.

On the night of November 23-24, 2010, the TVN24 branch in Krakow was moved from the old TVN headquarters on ul. Colonel. Dąbka 2 to a new office building with a view of Wawel on ul. Ludwinowska.
