France TV will launch at the beginning of February an ephemeral channel on TNT, to support culture particularly penalized by the COVID-19 crisis. Culturebox will be broadcast until the reopening of cultural venues, the public group announced on 22nd January in a statement.
This free channel takes the name of France TV site bringing together cultural content, which itself took that of the group’s former cultural information site. It will be accessible on “all screens, especially on the TNT package”.
It will offer concerts, shows and other festival recordings, including new shows, as well as a daily meeting with guests from the world of culture, and reruns of cultural programs produced by the public group.
“We have decided to launch a channel to support culture, reconnect artists with their audiences and give maximum exposure to all the arts during these times when concert halls are closed.”, explained the CEO of France TV Delphine Ernotte, in an interview with Le Figaro, adding that the project had been set up with the double support of the Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot and the president of the CSA Roch-Olivier Maistre, without whom “launching this channel in record time would never have been possible”.
Concretely, “The channel will be ephemeral and will stop when theaters reopen. It will be available in TNT, I hope on channel 19 released following the shutdown of France Ô (the overseas channel which stopped broadcasting last year , thus freeing up a frequency on TNT, editor’s note), as well as on our france.tv platform. I also intend to ask telecom operators to offer it on their boxes, so that it is accessible to all French people “, specified the leader.
